Pretty,
as her name suggests, was a very pretty devil when she first
came to Boomajaril as a young Devil in 2004. Today however,
she is actually pretty ugly. She is the oldest living devil
visitor to Boomajaril at almost five years of age.
Pretty
acts more like a pet dog than a typical Tasmanian Devil. She
has no fear at all even at a young age she was as game as
Ned Kelly. She would sit on the corner of the verandah which
became her spot and look in waiting for any type of movement
in which she would head for the door. Nomatter the weather
she would be in the same spot waiting paitently. She would
sleep on the verandah and if other devils came up on the verandah
she would defend it. Only when the lights went out at the
house would she go off to hunt.
She
concerned us at times as she was a little too confident around
us. We had to be careful when walking in the door that she
didn't follow us in. She would walk straight up to us when
we were outside. At one time during the afternoon she casually
came up on the verandah when my mum and dad where having afternoon
tea at the outdoor setting. She actually jumped up at the
chair, we believed she was going to jump on my fathers lap.
It was not vicious or threatening in anyway however we had
to move her on.
Pretty
would also follow me around the yard when I was filming the
devils and go to sleep practically at my feet. Pretty seemed
to like being close, she liked the company and of course the
food.
What
is interesting is that we never treated Pretty any differently
from the other devils. We never touch them or attempt to domesticate
them in anyway and her food is monitored like the rest. For
a wild devil, her behaviour really fascinated us. It was just
her personality - She may have the Devil version of obsessive
compulsive disorder!!! However we love her and she has given
us much joy and laughter with her antics over the past four
years.
