DEVILS
TO BE LISTED AS ENDANGERED
The
threat of extinction hovers closely over the Tasmanian Devils
head. As more and more Devils are claimed by the Devil Facial
Tumour Disease.
After
a five year review of the species by the Threatened Species
Scientific Advisory Committee it has been recommended that
the Tasmanian Devil be upgraded in status from Vulnerable
to Endangered.
The
upgrade to endangered reflects the real possibility that we
could lose the iconic Tasmanian Devil in the wild. They could
be extinct within as little as 20 years.
Ten Million dollars is sought from the State
Government to continue research into the disease. Unfortunately
this kind of research takes time, manpower and is very expensive.
Donations from the public are a vital key to getting results.
